Junior Valentine & the All Stars is a rhythm & blues band specializing in dance music for a variety of listeners. The group makes an effort to present many different styles of R&B music hailing back to the days when this great American music was regional in nature and reflected the sound and feel of the people who created it.

The band plays New Orleans tunes from Professor Longhair, Fats Domino and Smiley Lewis...Swamp Pop & Blues by Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Slim, Cookie & the Cupcakes...Texas Blues/Swing like T-Bone Walker, Bobby Bland and Freddie King. Chicago blues are evident including the styles of Junior Wells, Elmore James and Jimmy Reed. Memphis comes through with Rufus Thomas and Otis Redding. The band likes to swing too, with the likes of songs by Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Louis Jordan and Big Joe Turner. Not to forget those who like to slow it down and dance close...you will find ballads by Sam Cooke, Ben E. King and Ray Charles. This is just a sampling of the artists we feature.

Another side of the band is Rock & Roll and R&B from the 1960s and onward. You'll hear selections by Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Larry Williams and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Everyone likes Stevie Ray Vaughan and he's here too along with other R&B Kings like Delbert McClinton, Earl King, Johnny Otis, Wilson Pickett, James Brown and even some Queens like Aretha Franklin and Lou Ann Barton. Dance music indeed!

Not to stop there...Junior Valentine and the All Stars are one of the most popular party and wedding bands in Michigan. The group can play your favorite ballad or standard and can polka too. We have played many different types of wedding receptions and can go with a theme if that's your desire...like the Hawaiian nuptials that caught us in shorts and really loud island shirts!...you get the picture. All details will be handled when it comes to introducing wedding parties, bouquet and garter toss, playing special CDs on the breaks or singing Happy Birthday as a surprise to a wedding guest. The band enjoys a good wedding or party and can help your event be a dance-filled and memorable occasion.

The band now has four very solid and long standing members. Junior Valentine does most of the singing and carries the guitar work. John Gist plays both alto and tenor saxes and sings as well. Mike Darooge handles all the bass parts. John Large is the drummer and also a featured vocalist.

Hopefully this short description of music and styles will give you a good idea of the band and why we get in the van over 200 nights a year to keep this great music alive and to play for you wherever you are. Please look forward to a night of dancing and grooving to Junior Valentine and the All Stars!

P.S....Junior also works with Hank "Hawk" Mowery...in the band Hank and the Hawktones. Hank is a fine blues harmonica player and singer. If you like the jump blues and swing side of Rhythm & Blues...Hank is available to add even more great music to your event.
